Contemporary Social Problems

Our contemporary social problems have their roots deep in the structure of our civilization. While the environment is being ravaged and people are struggling away in a miserable existence the social structures that hold civil society together are beginning to crumble.

The way that we live is not designed to be conducive to human happiness. What would actually make people happy is a second rate concern compared to the more pressing task of obtaining mastery of the planet.

Naturally then in a society where people lead lives of quiet desperation there are all kinds of social ills.

The number of people who are afflicted by contemporary social problems is increasing. People are starting to wake up to the fact that something is seriously wrong with the world.  That simmering discontent is rising to the surface. That nagging feeling that there was supposed to be more to life.

A Global Economic Crisis Has Begun

The global economic crisis is not just about the potential for the bubble to burst. It is about the gradual enslavement of the people to large financial institutions that control us via the money supply. In a taker society there is a natural flow of wealth up the hierarchy. The money system is now the mechanism by which the masters control the slaves.

Political Apathy

Our political systems have failed. Even democracy, supposedly the most enlightened political system has not delivered the paradise that its mythology promises. We can tinker and refine all we like but no substantial improvement will be made. The central government model is obsolete. People don't trust politicians to fix the world's problems any longer; they are taking matters into their own hands.

"I Hate My Boss!" - The Wage Slave Mantra

An apathy for work from the masses was unpreventable in a culture that rejected tribalim in favour of hierarchy. The only way to make people pick up a plough a do some work was to deny them options. Typing in cubicles instead of working in the fields hasn't made work any better.

People Are Feeling Disconnected

We are so cut off from all the processes that keep us alive. The endless grind of daily life leaves most people wondering if this is all life was ever supposed to be. We used to live in communities and participate in making a collective living. Now we live as individuals in mass society We have no connection to the Earth and what it provides for us.

Can We Save The Planet When No One Seems To Care?

A major ecological crisis looms but everybody appears to be looking the other way. It seems that no one will take any notice until the crisis is kicking down the door. Saving the world is seen as a painful process. What if saving the world promised a better way of life for people; a much more satisfying existence?

The Global Energy Crisis - We're Running Out Of Ancient Sunlight

All the Earth's energy comes from the sun. Fossil fuels are merely vast storage depots of sunlight that fell on the Earth long ago. Our civilization is now completely reliant on these quantities of ancient sunlight. When they run out we will have to go back to using the finite amount of energy that the sun provides each day.

The Swine Flu Epidemic And Other Diseases Of Civilization

Poor health is probably the most saddening of all contemporary social problems. Lack of access to healthcare isn't the real issue. The problem is that due to a combination of poor diet, stress and environmental pollutants most people are in a chronic state of ill health. The diseases of civilization are running rampant.

The Worst Drug Culture In Our Society - Television

People are so drugged up on television that they are oblivious to what is actually going on in the world. Cheap entertainment and news soundbites keep us docile while major ecological issues go unreported. Television numbs the pain of our ordinary existence. If contemporary social problems aren't reported on tv then people don't hear about them.
